Default Argo installation failures due to windows installer problems ?

Hi all,

first to say I am not an experienced Ceedo user and I just purchased it after an one month trial period. To my opinion it is a great app and getting iTunes running on it is reason enough to buy it ,for me at least .
But anyway, I would like to run more and a lot of programs reported here to be compatible with Ceedo are not installable through Argo:
e.g. Safari 4,5, Office 2007, Nero Burning Rom 7,5
- setups are initiating and aborting installation with a windows installer error.

"Netframework 3,5 redistributable for XP" has been installed prior (without any problems) and after experiencing problems installing the above mentioned programs I (successfully) installed windows installer 4,5 in Ceedo. But unfortunately nothing changed the situation, the programs/setups are quitting the same way (failure is reproducible). Is it necessary to install any ms installer in Ceedo at all? And can it even be wrong? What could be a solution for these "installer" problems?

Any thoughts/suggestions are always welcome!

PS:
All installations took place under WinXP SP3 without any other app running in the back. Ceedo version was 3,5 (the latest).

It's more like something is messed up with Ceedo.

I'll see if I can find the time tomorrow to put together an image for you with Safari, iTunes and Nero (trial version). I won't install Office, though.

Watch this space.

Hey, that sounds great!
Maybe something is really messed up, like described (at the bottom here: http://www.ceedoforum.com/forum/show...?t=1883&page=2) it has been kind of a hazzle to install iTunes. The netframework I installed as it has been a requirement for the iTunesLibraryUpdater program (that works now well under Ceedo).
Furthermore there are no other apps installed.

looking forward to your image,
and of course I will be watching you

I've created an installer, Hendrik. It's more than 300 MB, so I can't upload it directly to my DropBox. It has to sync instead, which it's in the process of doing now.

Please give it a few hours to do this, and then try this link to download it.

To be honest, personally, I rarely, if ever, have issues with Ceedo.

Most of the issues I encounter come about when doing testing with various environments to try and replicate issues that are reported by users. I've found that the majority of the problems are related to some type of security setting - limited user accounts as opposed to admin accounts causing issues with installing software that requires admin privileges for the installation, Internet security software blocking Ceedo, etc.

Hey that's great!
Maybe something is really messed up with Ceedo now, as described iTunes installation has been kind of a hazzle.:

But it was a hazzle: iTunes 9-1 setup always hangs almost at the end of the installation: CPU throttle 60% but nothing happens further - for hours! (left it working over night) A look at taskmanager under processes reveals "itunes softwareupdate" as the culprit of cpu occupation, stopping it, causes an iTunes setup error and a roll back of installation - but only to a certain point and reinstallation begins automatically and succeeds!!! I did this now several times, it is reproducible. (installation on ceedo was under Win XP SP3).

The good:
after successful installation procedure described above iTunes is working 100% and the amazing thing: if an iPhone / iPod has been "installed" (means any iTunes has been installed before) on the host system, ceedo installed iTunes will recognize and sync with the devices as well (will recognize them and of course only syncs if the iTunes persistant ID will match - a good tool to match them is iTunesDBCloner to my opinion).

Conclusion:
it is not easy to set it up but if it works it does a great job!!!

I installed the netframework as it has been a requirement for the ITunesLibraryUpdater program which now runs well under Ceedo. Furthermore there are no other apps installed.

Looking forward to give your image a try, I just downloaded and
I will report soon....

Keith, now I tried your image:
I couldn't get ceedo started at all under XP (SP3). I tried multiple times, including restarts in between but ceedo starts loading and hangs (keeps on loading for hours and nothing will happen further).
Under Vista (SP2), ceedo works well (the same installation, generated from your image file).
After loading (the normal ~20s) iTunes and Safari can be started properly. The same applies for Nero but only for the SmartStart application, the main burning program initiates with an app-crash. Out of ceedo I can start it directly again but Nero app always fails to initiate, I tried it on three different machines - but here I have to say on all my (host- ) systems Nero has been already installed into the system (although not running in the back).
About the capability of running setups properly (the installer issue) I cannot say anything as the image has no argo functionality.

Conlusion:
As you proved to me that Safari installation resulting in full functionality of the program is possible in ceedo I believe that my ceedo installation must be somehow corrupted - maybe it is the "ms installer 4,5" installation, I will remove this in future tests.
Are there any installer requirements for ceedo to install (do I have to add any installer) or is argo doing it all itself?

Regarding Nero, I believe the burning engine (kind of "driver" !?) still causes problems to ceedo, with or without prior host-system installation I don't know, at least this seems to be more complicated.

I tested all the apps before uploading the image, and was able to run all of the installed apps, including Nero on my XP SP3 box from that image with no issues at all. I'd say it's time to give your XP SP3 installation its last meal and then get it a preacher.

You may want to temporarily disable your Internet security software, including its service(s) in the system configuration utility and attempt the image installation. on your XP box again.

I'm not sure if Nero 7 will run properly in Win7. I've never tested it in this OS.

So... what do you think about trying a different burning app such as DeepBurner? I can throw together another image for you if you like.

haha...I would do but unfortunately this is my most stable and flawlessly running XP I ever had

This didn't change a thing and the Vista installation on which ceedo is starting without any problems runs even much more security software in the back (windows defender etc.). Funnywise my own ceedo installation is starting in both systems.

okay I am not really sticky to Nero, so actually I am running InfraRecorder now, that doesn't even require an installation - so this is fine for me and as you may got , most important for me is my "portable" iTunes that really works great!
All the other apps (Office, Adobe, Safari etc.) are bonus for which I have portable replacements. I guess I am very happy with my actual installation and I will give Office and Co another try after the next bigger ceedo update release.

But anyway, many thanks for this great support!!! - for me, that has been one major reason for my purchase.

Have a good weekend and 1st of may!
