View Full Version : Using Argo to install AbiWord

Just downloaded a trial version of Argo. Sent the setup file to my desktop for portable AbiWord latest version.
Sent that file to Ceedo Drive L. Opened Argo and entered the Ceedo path where the setup file was and it installed and will open but it does not appear on Ceedo
anywhere that I can find, certainly not on the bar.
What is the point of Argo if programs will not appear?
Help on how to use is rather sparse.

I've just opened a new version of Ceedo and Argo to solve the problem I was having on my licensed version
of Ceedo drive where I cannot install FF 2.0.0.14 or .16.
Ho would I use Argo to try the FF download on this new setup?

If you downloaded the file to your desktop from within the Ceedo environment, then it will have either downloaded to \Ceedo\Common\Desktop or \Ceedo\User\Desktop. Look in these two folders and you should find it.
I'd recommend making a "Downloads" folder in your Ceedo My Documents folder and saving all of your downloaded files to it.
To use Argo to install FF, first download FF's setup file, and then run Argo, browse to FF's setup file, and follow the on-screen instructions.

Keith,
I now have two copies of AbiWord as I installed from the setup I sent to the drive L root and now I have one in the Download folder I created in Documents.
Neither appears on the Ceedo bar and both have to be opened manually. Since this program is not in the
Ceedo programs, does that mean I just have to know it is there and open it manually rather than having an icon for it in the bar?

Donna,
First establish that Abiword is actually installed on your Ceedo drive.
Open My Computer and browse to the Program Files folder on your Ceedo drive. Do not do this from within the Ceedo environment as Ceedo is set up to show shared resources on the host as well as what is installed on the Ceedo drive, so this can make you think that Abiword is installed on the Ceedo drive when it is not.
If Abiword is installed on the Ceedo drive, use Argo to create a shortcut in the Easy-Access menu (EAM), and select the option to place a shortcut on the toolbar during the shortcut creation process.
Delete the Abiword installation file from the root of the drive. You don't need it and it is just taking up space.

Got it at last! The icon is where it needs to be! Thanks!
At the end of my trial period will I enter my Ceedo license number and then be charged for Argo only?
I can have 3 copies of Ceedo w/Argo if I need them?

Donna,
If you have a license for Ceedo, you would import the license. If your drive is a Seagate FreeAgent Go, it should automatically license itself according to the parameters of the drive.
If you have already purchased a license for Argo, you would need to import it as well. No need to wait until the trial period expires. You can do it right away.
If your drive is a Seagate FreeAgent go, the Ceedo license is tied to that drive and that drive alone. OEM drives that come with Ceedo pre-installed - Seagate, Lexar, etc - do not qualify for the three drive rule as far as the licensing policy goes. Your Argo license purchase does (will) qualify, though.

Keith,
I could not find a mirror that I trusted for FF 2.0.0.16
that I want so I tried loading the Ceedo FF 2.0.0.14.
Didn't really know how to use Argo for that and didn't really think I needed it. Was I wrong!!!! It installed fine but at the end just like on my old Ceedo drive it would not respond and was locked up. I have uninstalled.
I am of two minds here. One, I've learned my old drive is OK as I thought it was. Two, I'm not sure FF will ever work on a drive that is designed for IE.
I may try FF 3.0.0.1 from Portable Apps using Argo because I no longer have to worry about addons and I
would like to have the latest copy. Think I can do that?

Y'know, it's really odd that FF can't run from your Ceedo drive. Really odd!
It could be that something running in the bacground on your PC is causing the issue. I'm not saying that this is the case, but it is certainly a possibility.
Why don't you go ahead and clean out your PC's start up group. To do this, first exit Ceedo as you will need to restart the PC. Then click Start | Run, type in msconfig and click OK.
Click on the Startup tab and uncheck everything except for your Internet Security software and click OK. Restart your PC when prompted.
When you get back to the desktop, you will see a dialog box reminding you that you just ran the system configuration utility. I guess the guys over at MS think everybody has a really, really short memory/ attention span.
Check the box that says "Don't show this again ..." or words to that effect, and then go ahead and connect your Ceedo drive, run Ceedo and try installing FF2 X again. If it installs, fine, you've figured out it's the PC. In this case, you can go back into the system configuration utility and recheck all the startup items, restarting your PC in between each one to determine which item is the culprit.
If you're still facing the same problem, go ahead and get rid of FF2 X and try FF3. It won't hurt anything ... I hope.

Keith,
I know you think I'm just like a dog with a bone but I can't let go without a solution.
I have not done the startup thing yet but will I guess. I loaded FF 3 using Argo but first I added Ceedo to my list of trusted applications. It loaded fine, put in the shortcuts,
and opened the Welcome screen but there the non-responsive error appeared and it is not usable.
Unless this can be solved my dream of having two
browsers like my PC on a stick is dead in the water.

Your dream of having two browsers available on your USB drive should not be dead in the water, Donna. Something is conflicting. We just need to figure out what it is, is all.
I have to go run some errands. I'll pick up on any new posts you make when I get back.

I have worked on this mess all afternoon and frankly I'm braindead. I cleaned up the startup but I think the issues are between Ceedo and Firefox. Tomorrow is another day!
